Gulf state park road opens today!!
GULF STATE PARK ROAD OPENS TODAY!!
GULF SHORES, Ala. – Newly renamed State Park Road will be reopened to all traffic starting on December 20, following the completion of several upgrades to make the road – formerly known as Hwy. 135 – safer for passenger vehicles, recreational vehicles, walkers and bikers.
Upgrades to the road included a shift of the center line, the installation of a highway rated railing system, and replacement of the bridge decking. New barriers were installed along Lakeview Trail to provide better protection to bikers and walkers.

^What it used to look like, before the railed bike trail^
Below are pics taken today (Dec 21st) by Steve Jones...
The railing protecting the bike trail is MUCH more substantial (and consequential with that sloped approach)...
The view from the parking lot...
The "weir" now has a walkover, but the fence will be an impediment to fishing and crabbing...
Still plenty of 'fishable' area below the trail to the water...
I'm just glad to get the alternate route back for times when traffic is heavy in town ;-)

It will be nice to have the road open again, though I cant say that its closure was as much of an issue as i thought it would be (the few times i was there during the closure). It would've been nice if they had left the parking area across the road from the beach though. That stretch of water used to be one of my go-to spots for pomps.
That is interesting, but surely an oversight? The ByWater-Beachside has a Facebook page @ https://www.facebook.com/ByWaterBeachside I asked them what the hours will be after Labor Day...
