HANDICAPPED parking spaces

Friends, countrymen, pier fishers lend me your ears pray tell! I seem to have an issue with the parking arrangements at the pier. For a lot that size more handicap spaces are needed. Some of you have seen me pulling my cooler, backpack of O2 tanks, and rods in and out but the real battle is when one of the 5-6 handicapped spaces are not available. I literally have squeeze in and back my car out to load up my belongings. Heaven help me if i have a medical emergency and dont have enough room. So what i am asking for is more handicap spots.

I recently double parked further out around the dumpster and a nice BMW from LA decided to teach me a lesson and instead of parking within his lines which would have allowed me to open my drivers side door without contact with his beemer; he parked it about 18 into my lane. I hated it when i opened my door but i was nice enough to leave a note! ##$@:::;&&%$#@#=/!

I happen to agree, I think that you should have at least 10 or so handicapped parking spaces in a lot that size. Who do we have to petition to make it happen??????

Sorry to hear of your bad experience Allen, but you may have a 'hard sell'.

Of course IF we could get rid of the 'freeloading beach goers' who overcrowd the 'free' parking at the pier perhaps that would relieve some of the overcrowding?

We need to contact the State Parks folks in Montgomery, which is where the edict will have to come from. Unfortunately, I don't have that contact information at my fingertips. I expect googling Alabama State Parks will bring it up.

Youre right about those numbers BUT that is the smallest number of spaces required by the ADA. The Park director or someone in Montgomery could authorize three more spaces seeing how we are a single entrance multi directional activity.

I dont know if i feel like messing with it. But if i had bought my 6 month pass i can promise i would be raising hell

It would probably be good to emphasize to them that your problem is the need of the wide space to unload your O2, etc., not just the walking distance to the pier.

7 spaces is way too few for a lot that size even it meets code. Some businesses have too few and some have way too many. As mentioned 10 would be better or 5% would make 11 spaces available.

Not to get off subject, there is a grocery chain here in N.C. that in addition to handicap parking, they also have Veteran parking spaces available.
