Hooked/Tangled birds...

Guys and Gals please NEVER just cut your line when a bird is tangled.

Friday morning was eventful with a couple kings decked, but there was also a Osprey and a Pelican decked.

The Osprey fed on young mans a drifted LY and thanks to Slim for helping with her.

Later on a Sam imposter flew into some braid and stripped 150ish yards of line out. The angler began to cut his line with the bird downed in the water. I told him he had to reel it in and remove the hook/line. Again, Slim to the rescue. She stayed around for a bit after hook removal then flew off.

It's good to see that many of the locals care enough to help get these birds released quickly and with care.

I always help with that when there.....haven't done the osprey yet, and hope I don't....my towel isn't big enough for the trouble ends of that bird.....Mr. Slim is a good guy in all respects

He is indeed a very good guy..
The Osprey was WAY calmer than some of the Redtails and Accipters i've handled. I was worried at first, those sets of talons are nothing to play with.

A helper makes this job a lot easier than doing it alone.

You gotta wonder what people are thinkin when they put jigs on a 100# dropper rig with a 2oz weight while fishing inshore?????

I truly hope that those are separate rigs, one with heavy mono and the 2 oz. weight for - I don't know, stingrays or other bottom feeders and a separate one for the jig and worm thingee with the --- humongous snap/swivel contraption. Still, I'm with you - what were they thinking? What were they going after and did someone recommend those (hopefully) two separate set-ups?

I think that these are potential students for PIER#R University!

You see some amazing things on the pier (rigs) let alone all along the beaches and bays....we don't see

Having been a TRUE GOOGAN for my 1st few beach trips(prior to GSSP) I can say I was self outfitted with super heavy black leaders, 3 giant J hooks on each rig, close to a pound of frozen squid and whole shell on frozen shrimp and 3-4 oz pyramids. 50lb mono on my giant penn senators...

Sometimes, people honestly just don't know any better. I'm glad the bird is ok though. I love birds more than most people..

The birds are certainly more honest. None of them belong to Congress.
