Lee Callaway Bridge/West Pass

Stopped by the West pass today to check its progress. I don't fish there but know several do, so thought I'd check. Discovered they are no longer dredging the pass with that little John boat thingy, but using long reach tracked backhoes to dig it out. It appears they build an island, dig off it, pile sand on the shore then truck it to the beach across the street.
sometimes I think piling it on the gulf side will just wash it back into the pass, but who am I to think this also would be a waste of money. After all, I'm no engineer!

Fshntime, I have been watching this for a week, if you count the man hours and the machine hours, 4-5 big trucks, 2 cats, 2 big backhoes, 2 flaggers, a couple of tractors and probable a 1/2 dozen people fricking the dog, that go unnoticed. I wonder if it is cost effective? Does the end result justify the cost? Just asking!!!!!!

Not IMHO. But like I said, I don't fish there and I know the little dredge thingy wasn't keeping up for the last several months!
