I grew up my early years in Tillman’s Corner and I read a lot of history, including War Between the States history. I have a question if anyone can answer, I read about Catfish Point on the west side, south of town but cannot seem to find it on any map modern or historical. Has it been renamed, altered with dredging or just insignificant? Keep in mind Mobile was much smaller in that time period so it may have been swallowed up by town. Thanks

Thanks but that’s not it. It was on Mobile Bay, west side, south of town. Official records say that’s where the yankees landed to capture Mobile after the battle of Blakeley. Perhaps renamed at some point way back when. Thanks for taking a look.
All the military battlefield reports of North and South were consolidated by the War Department into a 128+ volume series named something like "Official Records of the War of the Rebellion" [winners write the history, LOL!]. I believe there may be a separate cartography archive as well. If there was a landing, somebody had a map. The Official Records were government documents so "federal depository libraries" like at universities all had this 50 years ago. Today it is probably online. One of the perks of using depository libraries was that by rule they had to let anyone access government docs, even if the library was for students only.

do the documents say from which direction the Yankees invaded Mobile? Was it from the south?
I have never heard of "Catfish Point", but wondered if it might be a landing off "Catfish Bayou" which is on "Dog River" in south Mobile...

Mr. Pier, they came across the bay from Spanish Fort by boat and landed at ‘Catfish Point’ which was south of town. The mayor came down Shell road to meet them and surrender the city. I too have never heard of Catfish Point and not being able to find it on any map (modern or historical) had led me to think it was extremely insignificant or had been renamed since that time. I’d say that your theory is the best bet at this point and if I’m honest, I had figured if anyone would know, it would be you. I appreciate everyone’s help especially considering its off topic nature.

Dave, Eureka!!!! I found it . Go to link above. It is a thesis project, down load it and scroll down to page 418. It describes union landing at catfish point.
Five miles south of town is the present day Coast Guard base at Brookley Field. During the mid 1800s, this area was a ferry boat wharf.
