The Morbid Thread
Not too long ago, I came across the question - "What to do with cremation ashes" So I did some research. The first thing that I looked into was "LifeGem" (pretty much a misnomer under the circumstances) where they incorporate the ashes into a manufactured diamond. That seems pretty cool, but I'm not so sure that anyone would want to wear me.
Then, there's this idea where the cremation remains (cremains?) are mixed with concrete and make into a section of artificial reef. At $4000, that's less than a funeral with a casket, I imagine. And the idea of being a part of giving back to the resource that gave me so much pleasure ( I mean, of course, "GIVES", since I'm not finished harvesting the resource) seems appropriate.
Maybe you all have discussed this topic before? I didn't see anything when I searched it. Anyway, is there anyone else who sees the appeal of being part of a reef instead of taking up real estate space for the next few hundred years? They have a spot in/around Pensacola Beach somewhere, but I thought that it might be beneficial to look into forming a Gulf Shores reef memorial spot near the pier. Here's a page that explores options on the general subject: 5 Unique Things to Do With Cremation Ashes ? Kern

Being put out to sea is my wish. Although there is a place called "up in smoke" that will take and put your ashes in shotgun shells so your buddies can shoot you while hunting. Guess that's what you call "going out with a bang"!!!

True dat. For 10 years I have been telling my wife that's what I want!
There was a placement by 'Eternal Reefs' in Pensacola Bay, FL just last month.

I look it like this - While I'm alive, I can help other folks catch fish by telling them how I do it. After I'm gone, I can use my remains as part of a fish-attracting reef. Not a bad legacy, in a pay-it-forward sort of way!

Can I be placed somewhere so that the trawlers and gill netters off the pier will have to curse me every time I snag a piece of their gear? Failing that, can I be placed within sabiki range of the back side of the octi?

I would absolutely INSIST that my artificial reef include a commercial trawl messer-upper! I'd have a warning sign posted, though: "Don't Trawl On Me!"

When my brother died this past April (a big Packer fan), we had originally planned to get onto Lambeau Field and scatter is ashes. Never quite worked out.
