What is the proper way of using a Sabiki Rig, both off pier and in the surf?
Apologies for all of the simple minded questions, discovering a different side to salt water fishing. Basically past experience was, take a 2 hook bottom rig,from WallyWorld,load it with previously frozen shrimp add a 4 oz. pyramid, cast then sit and enjoy a cold beverage. Though enjoyable, looking something a little more productive.
From the Pier I just drop them down till they hit bottom and jig them slowly up and down a few times , than reel in some line and jig again,
I'll do di on each side of the piling,and I tip them with tiny bits of fish bites .
Surf I tip them the same and cast out just behind the braking waves and slowly bring it in, just let roll around, if there's fish they'll find it .

When on the pier the wind and current will determine what size lead you need to use. With no current or wind a 1oz. will work fine but with hi wind and current may go all the way to a 3-4 oz. to get it to the bottom. One thing you want to do is just look around and see what everyone else is doing. Sabiki rigs are basically for catching bait, though the larger ones are good for smaller Spanish & Hardtails.
I've never tried using one in the surf, but I guess it would work.
On the pier, Just cast out or drop down and work it at different depths until you find the LYs or sardines.

You may be on to something with the bobber in the surf, not that you would use/need it as a bite indicator. But it could helping keeping from tangles/covering more of the water column. Interesting thought..
