Show of volunteers

I've posted the phone number it's 334-242-3334 and names of Greg Lein (Director) and Rob Grant (Assistant Director) for the State Parks System in Montgomery. I would like a response to the Number of people willing to call every week to see if we can get the problems of the pier resolved. 1 Sharks 2 Pier lighting 3 Overall Maintenance of the pier. We all need to be part of this process to see if we can get the Pier back to the shape we think it should be in. If anybody else has something they would like to address please post it.

Robert, I'm willing to call, but i'm not a local, however I love the pier very much. Are there any specifics that I need to say? Do these people know to be expecting phone calls?

Count me in, Robert. Instead of complaining to each other about the pier problems, these are the ones we need to be calling.

I've talked to Montgomery and they said that more than likely there will be some kind of fine but their gear will be returned. I don't really want anybody complaining to Montgomery about the shark fishing incident because it is a rule and the individuals admitted to it. Lets wait and see what comes of their court case. What I'm concerned is the lack of action by the State on the shark problem and the rundown condition of the pier. Mainly why we can't get the lights repaired and it's going on 6 months now. I told them the other day that we as fisher men and women we don't understand all the work that's been going on around the park and we can't keep the pier operational. Also if you have been from out of state and stayed in the Gulf Shores or Orange Beach area to fish the pier tell them why your going else where.

I suggest also emailing Mr. Lein for the purpose of documenting the various issues needing attention. It would be difficult for him to contend that he was unaware of issues to which he has responded.

So I brought up the lights issue, the lack of proper restitution since the hurricane, the lack of regular maintenance of the facility and the insufficient regard for sanitation and cleanliness. I thought that those items were most closely related and more likely to get attention than the shark problem.

Yeah, for a criminal case not a relatively minor infraction of Park Rules. I guess by that standard they confiscate gear from people fishing without a park permit at the weir or lakes.... But they don't, I've seen them write tickets but not take gear.
Whatever, I didn't mention it when I called today.

They want emails with all information/documentation.
So put it all in there.

Talking points for shark problem:
Shark problem is bad for fishing/ business.
Fisherman ARE going elsewhere.
Cleaning tables attract sharks
Cleaning tables violate local laws about chumming/bloodbating
Cleaning tables keep rangers from inspecting catches
Sharks are making fishermen catch 3-4 times their creel limit to meet one limit.
Sooner or later with the number of sharks, one will make a mistake and bite a tourist.
Let us harvest sharks and follow State law for shark size/creel limits.

So we are for removal of the cleaning stations? Just curious.. what are we to do with the carcasses or guts when we get ready to leave? Will there be a trash bin or will be simply take them home and gut em there?
