I was told yesterday that one of our regulars, "Slow Bill" is in the hospital at Foley, in IC, and not doing real well. I'm ashamed to admit that as much as I've fished alongside him and swapped lies with him, that I don't know his last name. Anyhow, I hope he sees this and I hope he improves rapidly.
I think his name is Debruhl. Thanks for the update I wish Bill the best. Hope to see everyone soon take care.

DeBruhl passed over the river to the other side. Although his arrival on the other side may be a bit delayed if the fish are biting.Dad grew up in Mars Hill, NC, a small community way back in the woods at that time. So far back Dad used to joke, “Even the Episcopalians handled snakes.” He went on to travel all around the world with the US Navy, he was a Shellback and a Bluenose, and as the Quality Manager for the Nicholson File division of Cooper tools. Eventually he settled in Gulf Shores and had the great pleasure of spending many years fishing from the pier and enjoying the beach and the community of his friends.
They say that the people we meet and are associated with come into our lives because they have a purpose to fulfill for us. Once they have fulfilled that purpose they move on. Although life’s circumstances prevented Dad and I from spending a lot of time together, I believe his purpose for me was to teach me patience, empathy and don’t sweat the small stuff.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Dad’s wish was to be cremated and buried in Cullman next to his wife June. We will not be having a memorial service in Gulf Shores but rather in Cullman and there will a graveside service as well. Cory will announce the date and time. The family would ask that instead of flowers, please make a donation to Community Hospice of Baldwin County or your local Hospice. The nurses from Hospice were a real comfort to Dad and our family during his transition from this life.
We will all miss “Slow Bill” more than I can convey. However he would not want anyone crying about his passing. Rather get together with friends, fix a big pot of gumbo, pour a glass of sauterne and laugh and joke and tell tall tales. And remember that no one is really dead until their name is mentioned for the last time.
Thanks for all the kindness the Jam Doughnut gang and others have shown Dad during his time in Gulf Shores. You were all truly his second family in every sense.

You gave us memories and stories that have helped us during this time.
While Perry, Cory and myself all have different memories of our time with dad we are dealing with this loss as a family and we all loved him deeply.
We were lucky enough to spend the last three weeks of daddy’s life with him and those memories will never be forgotten and the memories you shared with as his friends and family will always be treasured.
Tonight look up and see that one star that shines brighter than the rest and we can about promise that it’s dad telling his tall tales and fixing something fabulous for those that have gone before him.
