40 and raining. Good recipe for hypothermia. but there was a still a bunch of trucks & boat trailers at the ramps this morning.
No thanks, I will pass.
Cant imagine -41, lowest I remember growing up in northeast PA was around -9, that was bad enough.
I admire the toughness and adaptability of anyone who lives somewhere that freaking cold. Those who regularly have to shovel their cars out of the snow just to get to work, own and regularly use snow blowers and have to drill holes in the lake to get to the fish. I envy you not. It was 20 in NOALA this morning with a 10 mph ENE wind. Cold enough that I opted to postpone a hunting trip to watch bowl game reruns on my only day off this week. Cabin fever and a shortage of Milos sweet tea cold possibly get me out of the house this afternoon.
I'm happy to say that I wasn't there to know what the wind or the humidity was, I tried to check it out and I couldn't find the little town NW of Duluth that had it. It was a town that I had never heard of and I can't remember the name of it. It was on the news last night. Today is the first day with the temperature above 0 in a while, it's +5 right now and it is supposed to hit +12, but it's snowing. Usually, when it warms up, it snows. That's the way it is in the second "Happiest State in the Union". I think we are happy because we drink a lot of beer. Maybe not?
Looks like we will get a 'taste' of that polar weather at the pier early next week...
National Weather Service
Low New Years morning 35
Low Tuesday morning upper 20s
Low Wednesday morning near 30
At least the high temp those days will allow thawing (above freezing).
Still C-O-L-D for us Suthern bred boyz ;-)
5 degrees starting out....high of 17....worked out in it all day
I'm looking forward to keeping the fire going while watching bowl games up at the hunting camp this weekend. Might get out and hunt in the mornings.
If at the cabin (will be the weekend) I sure would be using the wood burning stove for heat

CarlF---I'm glad to see so much wind inthe forecast since that's not good for deer hunting and I can hunker down near the fireplace and not feel guilty about not hunting. Damn, I must be getting closer to the end of middle age to feel that way.
Looking at the weather were we moved from this past June back in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia with a low of 8 and a high today of 26 , Glad I'm back in the South
I sure am glad my deer tags are filled for future jerky, it sure would be cold hunting in these single to teens temps....at least working moving around there is activity to create some extra body heat in work.
I live on Lay Lake and there are several thousand acres of timber company owned land across the river from me. Many people lease land or buy permits and when younger I harvested many deer there. For the past few days there has been a lot of firearm activity over there. It makes me believe that the colder weather has perhaps triggered the rut a little early and the deer are on the move. Good luck to all. I have always enjoyed hunting in the colder weather and seemed to have improved success then in my younger years.
I'm glad I'm going to be near the fire the next few days. If I went out on the pier, I'd have to attach my peter finder, and there have been a few times when it has come loose and caused me some severe anxiety until it could be reattached.

Darn global warming
Linda and I drove up to Wheeler Wildlife Management Area today to see all the ducks and sand hill cranes. There sure was bunch of Motorhomes and Travel Trailers from Michigan and Wisconsin headed south.
Was out hog hunting . It was so cold and I had so many clothes on I had to take a Viagra just to pee without getting my pants wet....
According to the long-range Winter weather forecast a month or six weeks ago, they predicted a well above average temps along the Gulf Coast, and slightly below average temps in the Upper Midwest. They sure missed that forecast unless we are going to be in a heat wave the rest of the Winter. Happy New Year, Y'all!!!!
You guys have practically the same temps on the gulf that we’re having just south of Atlanta. Let it warm a tad towards the end of the month, please.
I walked out on the back porch here at hunting camp this morning and my coffee froze so fast the ice was still warm.
This yearlong temperature/rainfall plot from NWS Mobile tells the story of 2017...

26 degrees on the back porch in Springhill this fine New Years Day.
Happy New Year Carl and everybody. This is my first complete year down on the coast. (Live in Daphne) I am still trying to figure out fishing around here. God Bless all.
11 here when I went to the blind, had frost on my eye brows til I started shooting, warmed up fast dragging a doe,got 1 buck tag left but headed to middle Tn Thursday nite and its 3 doe a day, might shoot 1 or 2 over the coarse of the 3 days but I process my own and don't want to spend a day cutting 6-9 deer up,mainly looking for a 8pt or better but land owner wants all of them killed
Finally got above freezing around noon. Wind is still howling.
I felt real sorry for the birds trying to get at my feeder this morning. The ones that came too early froze in mid-air and I had to push them aside to put some more seed out. I tried to take some pictures, but the intense cold had slowed down the light waves so much that the photos were all underexposed. When I tried to use my peter finder, it was snapped in two---from the inside. I think I will sit close to the fire and re-read "The Cremation of Sam McGee".
I was worried about the cold in Gulf Shores and maybe leaving the heat turned off. James went by the house last night and turned the thermostat up to 60. Now I'm stuck here in Gardendale with no water. I think it must be frozen up in the front yard where Linda parks her car so much dirt has washed out. Here's hoping the Sun thaws it out enough today to get it back on.
Started the day at 3 below....everything froze up,worked out in it all day loading pieces at the national guard station till 1:30 when it was a balmy 8 degrees....there is heat in moving around and not just sitting driving the fork truckon and off, for the most time working by my self except for the semi truck driver
Thawing out not .....dang
I truly feel sorry for you fellows along the coastline for having to endure this unseasonably cold weather. Sure, it's cold up here too, but we expect it and we are ready for it. I would doubt if you expect it or are ready for it. Our houses are very well insulated, our water pipes are 4' deep, in many cases our garages are heated, the snow plow and the chains stay right on the pick-up. O.K. bring it on! We'll deal with it.
You people are very definitely in my prayers.
