9-7-23 Thursday AM
Arrived for the early bite, unloaded the truck around 5:30. Cool 74 and cloudy. Light winds and currents from the West. Fishing the nub, 2 of us managed 5 Spanish, couple were good size. Usual tactics, white Ironman bucktails and Gotchas. Tossed out a frozen finger Mullet but no takers.
Almost certainly saw a Juvy King come over the rail (20" or so) and almost positive I lost a bigger one- broke 12# line after a long fast run straight away from the pier. Had to slowly tighten the drag to even have a chance, but probably never had a chance.
Not a lot of people fishing, but saw some other anglers with equal luck, maybe 8 to 10 more Spanish, a few fair size Hardtails. Some surface activity on the top-water early but never saw a lot of bait. Counted 5 sharks (hung around forever) and 5-6 Dolphin feeding to the East.
About an hour later, the bite was totally dead but saw a couple of fishermen with a couple decent Mangroves on the way out... said bull minnows were the ticket. Someone told us the bite today was twice as good as yesterday... so I'm glad I didn't go yesterday.
Do wish I had used 15# line instead of 12#, but thems the breaks.
