Coach mentioned it to me on the phone the other day and keep forgetting to post about it. Finally remembered though. It is getting close to that time of year for the annual pier picnic. I am going to ask for it off work so I can actually make it for my first time. Let's start thinking of date so I can ask for the day off. We can already rule out the Saturday before Easter.
didn't they settle on the last Saturday of April?(from now on) that would be April 26th this year.....last year was the 27th
after all the spring breaks and before the Memorial day start of the summer rush

yes (Paid)...... and no sore subject with me, except maybe loosing the winning king half way up, but that is fishing....It would have been nice winning both categories, but just wasn't meant to be.....and very happy with the one.....and coming home with a gem of a rod, redone by John and J&M.....best vacation ever and well needed
I think to much going on that day to have any kind of function(tourney)..... but the picnic and sharing with all the ones in attendance

Maybe I'm alone in this, but I PREFER the day-to-day comradery that is pier fishing sans the competition for "money and prizes".
To me it says more to simply get together to 'break bread and give thanks' together than compete with one another.
Isn't there enough of that in the world already?

I'm with ironman,#'r and divedeep on this one about doing one during the picnic. Now,as for tournaments in general,this is what I have to say... The tournaments were fun the first couple years because it wasn't crowded and for the most part we all knew each other. Now on any given morning I may recognize a quater of the people on the end at best. Sorry to be a tournament partypooper,but times have changed and I feel the pier is no place to have a one day event. Like Pest said in another thread,money can bring out the worst in people and I feel a person thats trying to catch a fish shouldn't be subject of being told "I'm fishing a tournament,get out of my way!",witch is what I whitnessed year before last. I can live with week or month long events because people will fish their normal scedule instead of everybody being there at one time. This is a public forum,just my thoughts.
If our schedule holds up we'll be rolling into town on the 26th, are non local forum members invited to the picnic?
Absolutely. Watch for a sign up list for food/supplies couple weeks before.

I have to say the picnic goes better without the distraction of a one day tournament. The intent of the picnic is friends and family getting together and enjoying good food and getting to know new friends. The only forum tourney during the picnic was a fund raiser two years ago for one of our pier family who was injured in an accident.
I didn't think that was really a tourney??, just a fund raiser for Bucket....I thought tickets were sold and a drawing done for winners of prizes....I wasn't there in body, but was in spirit..... so really don't know for sure.... I don't think I would make it, but you never know....I do a lot on.... spur of the moment..... at times....but would have to at least plan the jerky making for it, if in attendance
as long as mr george brings his fish chowder ill be there lo....l just kidding ill be there no matter what... but seriously i want that chowder it is the bomb!!

Yes. In the past, Fin has started a thread a couple of weeks before the picnic. I assume time is noon. Hoping to be there but depends on whether my place is rented. Money before fun......
