Another "bright" idea

Does anyone know how to tie a double hook rig using light floro., line, 25# test, to use on the party boat. I have tried it using a 3-way swivel and also using the sabiki rig method and the floro. wraps around the main line. I have also tried using a palamar drop shot knot but I do not get as many hits using that method. These fish are to smart for us Northerners. Well figure it out, if we're dumb enough to live up there, we can't be to smart. I have tried the same methods with walleye rigs using 8# floro. and have the same results. I have also tried it with the weight off of the 3-way and on the bottom of the bait, same results. I have tried the search bottom on the forum and looked for any you tube videos on the subject, none to be found. Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated.:confused:

Since I don't use them but once a year when I make it down to the saltwater, this is how I do it. Much easier and the ones I have gotten have worked great. Just shop around.

I normally shore fish but had the same issue with the line getting snarled. The rig that works the best for me and is the lowest cost for hardware is the morticians rig. The Mortician Rig- My Take On The Flapper Rig

The important point with this rig is to use a heavy line for the figure 8 knots. Typically 50-60 lbs mono and lighter line for the hook line. I have used 20 - 30 lb mono/floro for the hook lines with success. Have also went light 4-8 lb for hook line. Space out as many figure 8 knots for multiple hooks. I have used up to three hooks in the surf.

Another hint is to put a overhand knot above the bottom sinker to allow it to be broken off if sinker snags.

After raising 2 kids, a half dozen of their cousins and countless friends, I got tired of buying rigs. This is a good pictorial of the rig I make..simple and cheap.

I have tried a modified Sabiki rig with 25# test floro., off of the boat and I found that the bigger fish will break the loop knot. Dan, USA, made a board for me in which to tie them with so they should have been tied correctly. I guess I will have to go to a heavier line and see what happens. Thanks Ironman.

We also make our own dropper rigs for surf fishing, just like the tutorial shows, except we use 10# flouro and tie to the mainline ( 8-10# ) mono with a double uni or surgeons knot. These are very adequate knots for fish that are less than 10#.

Did you bring a crappie rig or yellow perch rig? Maybe switch to floro if you think they see the line?
