Shimano Saragosa
Anybody know anything about the saragosa? Looking to buy one for ling. Any feed back or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

They have a pretty solid reputation, but my boss owned 2 and both drags went to crap in a matter of months. Bad luck I guess?
I would also say that if you are interested in saving some money go with a Battle instead. I don't think there is anything about cobia fishing that requires a higher price point reel, as opposed to bottom jigging for instance.

Gotcha. Really like the ht100 drag system. Seems to work very well. The saragosa was suggested to me and I would rather have a few different opinions than just go off of one persons opinion. Thanks for the feedback.

I agree with Pierless. Can't beat the price point on the Battle and its proven reputation. I would suggest a 7000 for cobia. The 8000 is just too big and heavy for that purpose.

Never owned a Saragosa so I can't really say anything about them. But, as these others have said the Battle reel is a very good one. If you like Shimano, look at the Spheros. A lot less $$$ and I have had good luck with them and the Battle 8000 for ling. The 8000 may seem a bit big and heavy to some, but it feels just right when yer fightin a big one!!!

Are there manual conversion kits for battles? Really want something I could easily convert to a manual pickup if it already isnt.

Only conversion kits are for the SSV reels.
Good tip Tom! These two big fellas were screaming like girls when that happened to them last week... LOL
