Was just down a month ago and did pretty well for Spanish off of the beach early morning. Coming down for a fishing-only trip with a buddy. How do my chances look for this week (Friday thru Monday) for fishing same location>? Should the Spanish still be hanging close to the beach in the morning? Otherwise, what are my best bets for success with other species, redfish, etc? Sounds like the pier is getting some action, we might shoot over there one morning.

I'm down there right now, on the peninsula a few miles east of the fort. Don't know what's happening down there but where I'm at so far we've just been catching a lot of whiting and some barely legal flounder in the mornings. Been slow but steady. Haven't seen any of the other usual suspects for the last couple of days (no ladyfish, spanish, specks, reds at all).
We are going to be out that way in 9 days. Fishgeek, would you mind very much editing your post, and saying that the surf is hot, and the fish are biting like crazy?Quote:

What do you look for in fish holding features. Gonna be down in a couple weeks and staying on west beach and hope to hit the surf a few days. Had more fun and caught more fish last year in the surf than on the pier or on a party boat so gonna concentrate on it more.

I find that as long as the tides aren't totally slack, I tend to do OK in the proximity of my abode (condo). I actually see this as part of the challenge, that is, finding the fish near where I am staying. What I do find is that the favored bait and lures change, as well as the distance from shore where the fish are holding. The only times that I have been shut out are on the absolute worst slack tide days. Even then, I still manage to catch some trash fish, which in combination with the proper refreshments, is still better than going to work.
Now with all of this said, you guys get all of your catching out of the way in the next week or so. Just after our archery opener, I'm headed back down your way (sans inlaws), and I want the fish to be nice and rested.
