Yep change to braid to mono, 15-16 momoi illusion is the best, but hi-catch or berkely big game get it done. Tritanium is similar to illusion in quality but slightly thicker and more durable. Would switch the jig rod to nice 20# or 25# in your choice. Just don't use that red cajun line, its junk.
im not the best at fighting fish. i mean i can get them in, but do you think 15-16 lbs is big enough?
and whats the best color for kings? i see alot of yellow lines.

Coastal, the fish don’t care so much about the line color as the people fishing close to you do. A lot of us use high visibility green so we can watch our lines to avoid tangles.
Don’t get that red mono, it is almost as hard to see as braid.
As for the line size, 15# to 17# is plenty strong enough.

16# is very strong.
I use 6# - 10# main line, and a 16# top shot to handle the fish once at the pier.
Fatter lines don't help really, other than reducing your line capacity--unless going after much heavier fish around substrate or structures.
Think of it this way, more line being drug into the water means more water resistance per inch of line the fish must pull without stressing the line at any given point. Thinner line with more capacity on the reel will allow you to finesse the fish and wear it down with ease using water as your friend and buffer when the fish pulls the line out--making it easier on your line, rod, reel and you.
Plus, there's no fun in ripping a fish's scales off by skipping it across a wave's crest using 30# plus lines. Most fish will just break your hook, leader or rod tip if you try to manhandle them with heavy lines also.
Trilene Big Game in 12# or 15# will do the job just fine.
Thanks a lot! This really helped!
