Looking for suggestions on a couple of good rods to put my penn 8000 reels on. I have multiple rod/reel combos in the 4000 series for Spanish and smaller species, will be using these on the Octi for Kings, etc. prefer to stay in the 7 1/2 - 9’ range and not looking to spend a fortune as I only get the opportunity to come a couple times a year. Thanks in advance!
For the budget minded angler, the Ugly-Stik BigWater series rods (7ft, 8ft, and 9ft) in the 60 buck range is not a bad deal.
im in the same "boat"... once a year we venture to the majestic Gulf Shores... and my only thoughts are about the pier! LOL! Wife says it's something to do about a "vacation".... the Ugly Stick rods seem to be the best bang for the buck, and I have searched quite a bit for something value minded and funtional.
If your looking for a rod don't think anybody has a better selection than J & M Tackle on Canal Road.
Amen to that. I was in there perusing the selection two days ago and checked out prices all the way from, "Oh, my God!" to "Hmmmm, yes, I think I will." I walked out with a Beefstick 9' rod for my trolley anchor for just over $25. They have both what you want and what you need---at very competitive prices. And their customer service is unbeatable---I've walked in there on two very busy days recently, with casualties in the never ending war between rod tips and car doors, and have been on my way with a new tip in ten minutes.Quote:

8000 series is a stout reel to be handling on the rail for a lengthy period of time. But if thats what yah got, then definately use it.
And yeah, go to J&M. Take the reel with you, make sure the rod/reel together are well balanced.
