Guys (and girls),
What would be the best rod reel combo for a late March/early April visit for fishing the pier? I think the selection from my last trip might have been a bit of overkill.
Thanks,
Brad

Just about anything that would be suitable for medium/large FW gamefish.
A 6-7' medium rod, with a 4000-5000 class reel with 10# line.
I would bring
A dedicated bait rod for sabiki/ribbon.
A couple of light rigs for bottom fishing & casting. 5-10#
A couple of medium rigs for casting/jigging & live bait. 10-15#
A medium heavy rig for live bait & casting. 15-30#
I think the Penn Pursuit II with 230 yds of 10 lb test is the best economical all purpose combo for the pier I use it for spanish with bubble rigs, gotchas, plugs and looney jigs Comes with a nice 7 ft graphite rod This combo will catch most anything you run into on the pier I also use it bottom fishing with a carolina rig as well as flounder fishing If you want a step up maybe the Penn Fierce combo again with 230 yds 10 lb test If you want to try for Kings etc you can't beat the Penn Battle combos I use a Penn Battle 5000 with 300 yards of 16 lb test I really believe you need at least two rods and reel combos if you wnt to fish for the bigger fish like kings reds jacks etc but if you re not going to do that the Penn Pursuit or Penn Fierce combo will serve you well
Thanks for the info Dan!
