Can you identify these formations?

Hello,
Heading down to Rockport, TX on a fishing trip. At the end of the pier I can see obvious formations in the water via google earth. I have checked historical imagery and the formations seem to be permanent. Could these be oyster reefs? Seems to be a strange shape and location for oysters reefs. Some of my family plan on swimming off the pier so I wanted to get an idea of any possible dangerous artifacts in the water before they jump in.

Any ideas are appreciated!

To light to be oyster beds, probably sea grass beds or something along those lines.

Patches of seagrass. Is that image from Aramsas or Copano Bay? If I ever win a lottery I'm going to get a place on Copano Bay, prettiest bay on the upper gulf.

Ha! Good eye! That is capano bay! We rented a place right on the bay for labor day weekend. One of those piers will be ours for 3 days. It comes with a cleaning table and spot lights. Pretty excited! I am from Galveston and have never been to this part of the Texas coast.

I suppose the fishing techniques will be the same as Galveston bay? Any tips on what fish may be running right now and good set-ups? I'm hoping to get some nice reds and specs...maybe some gaf top for catfish nuggets.

Good to know its just sea grass, usually leads to good fishing.

Not a good eye, but a fairly decent memory. As far as fishing, just approach it as you would Galveston or any other bay on the gulf. Fish the lights on the private pier for sure and enjoy.

Yep sea grass, a single plant roots then send out runners in a circle. Makes round patches until the patches join up

Good, I would assume this would make for a great fishing spot. Sea grass + bait fish = bigger, hungry fish. We shall see.
