Cast Net Recommendations
I have a Betts 6' cast net and a couple of smaller el-cheapo nets, but I'm thinking about upgrading to a larger net for general purpose use. Looking at the 10' Fitec GS 1500 (1-1/2 lbs. of lead per foot) in 3/8". Anybody have any experience with that particular net? What kinds and sizes of nets do you guys use or recommend?
Thanks ...
Philip

I have used Betts, Calusa, Black Pearl, a few customs, various cheap ones, but never a Fitec. In general all the "good brands" have performed well for me. A custom by Caesar Cesar's Cast Nets | Professional Custom Handmade Cast Nets | South Florida was probably the best net I ever owned, but it was certainly the most expensive. For me, the big wild card is how long the mono lasts before it starts to rot. I've seen the same type of Betts net last anywhere from 1-4 years without much difference in the way it was used. As far as I know keeping it away from bleach and storing in a cool, shady spot are all that can be done to keep the mono fresh, but there is no way to know the status of the mono when you purchase the net.
10 is a good size for most situations. Sometimes I want an 8 or 9 for throwing in boat slips or a 12 for tossing off a high pier, but 10 is a sweet spot.
