Cedar Point Pier, Monday 24th an Open Invitation

Well a day on the Bay didn't happen, the best laid plans seldom survive contact.

So what's a guy to do?
Reschedule and go somewhere he hasn't gone in over a decade (at least).

My son Nate and I will be headed out the Cedar Point Pier this Monday the 24th.
We plan to fish from approx 10-11am till at least 10pm but probably more like midnight.

We welcome anybody that wants to drop by, wet a line and share the day with us.

Hard to miss the fat man in a green long-sleeve Columbia, with a big red beard.
If there's room we plan on fishing the end furthest out to the left.

Been some reports of the Reds running, Big Uglies and White trout mixed with Ground mullet.

White trout biting steadily, but we're ignoring them and fishing cut baits and shrimp for Reds and Blacks.
Black's and Reds have been biting too, four on deck so far.

Reds are hitting hard and fast, huge gafftops too.

So far we've seen a crap ton of White trout, a good number of Reds and big Gafftops, a couple of Sheepshead and a nice Flounder or three.

Personally we've two Bull Reds and a Gafftop.
One Bull may be my PB lengthwise.

Everybody and their mother showed up after work.
Oh the Googanity!
Never in my life have I seen so much Wally World gear and tackle.
And the sheer waste of undersized croakers and white trout.
I'm truly awestruck, nothing on the GSP has ever rivaled this.

At least the restrooms are clean and stocked.
I wonder how much admission will be after the New Year?

Nate and I had a Bull Red a piece and several large Gafftops in the cooler.
For those who never tried a Gafftop, they're on par with any freshwater cat.
So we finally called it a day at 8pm, nothing was happening but thousands of small Croaker and White trout.
Of course shortly after we left it was probably a Red fish chew down with Blacks in attendance.
We shall never know.

It was fun day, with a 2 hour blitz of Reds and Gafftops.
Nate and I both landed two other Bulls and lost one each too.
Not a bad way to get back to fishing after over a year of being out of the game, that being forced upon me by a shoulder injury and surgery.

The day crowd were pretty much solid fishermen, most were targeting a good showing of decent White trout, several more were actively targeting Sheepshead and Flounder, and maybe a dozen of us were after the Reds and Blacks
A weekday morning or afternoon is apparently the best time to fish here to beat the weekend or nighttime crowds.

The after work/night crowd is huge, no really, it went from three dozen to easily 200+ at about 6pm.
And these are the Googans stacking three Wally World double drops atop each other, looking like metallic octopus aliens covered with orange beads, dripping with frozen squid and whole shrimp.
Four inch Croaker and White trout scattered everywhere over the pier.
$25 rod combos, 15' 2' thick surf rods, rolling coolers, dip nets on 10' handles, frozen bait and chairs scattered everywhere too.
A freaking obstacle course.

There were a few groups of fishermen that showed up as we were packing up.
They were coming to spend the night and chase the Reds and Blacks, they came with live blue crabs, live or fresh dead shrimp and mullet, and sporting solid gear and tackle.
Talked with a few of them and they're regular all-nighters who know how to kill some fish.

One thing I did see a bit of was Bull Reds caught during the day being sold to the after work crowd.
I can't blame a guy for trying to recoup bait and gas, but I hear the wardens frown on that activity.

Oh yeah... Not one shark or dolphin was seen.
