How has the 2016 season started? Any Cobia spotted or caught?
They are catching them at Navarre pier along with kings
Hopefully that means they are almost to Gulf Shores! I have not heard to much from Oakaloosa yet.....thanks!
What is your favorite cobia set up? Live bait, jigs, Rod etc....
Sight fishing for both pier and boat fisherman with large colorful jigs is the bait of choice for most, but live eels are also great.
Well some can argue, but if you have a live eel in the water, say on a balloon rig, or on bottom. You can throw a jig all day if they see it they might come after it, but that eel will bring em in. I dont know what it is, but they will just smell that eel in the water and come find it. I have caught one or two by accident, because i let the eel hang over in the water while my rod was hanging off the pier. that thing hit it so hard it knocked an eye off my rod. I caught the rod before it went over and the cobia was like 35 pounds... a nice one. Like i said some will argue but if you have the patience a live eel will out do a jig every day.
http://www.gulfshorespierfishing.com...36/index2.html suggests hardheads as cobia bait. With my luck if I wanted one for bait all I would be able to catch are pomps.
