What are the chances of the pier being closed or open the first weekend in April?
Nobody knows, but there seems to be a significant chance it will be closed. If it does not close before then, my personal guess is that it won't close until next November/December because of the uproar over it being closed during Spring and or early summer..
I was told by Lamar that the work will start whenever the Biological Study is completed. They don't want to delay or have to rebid the contract. The New Lights have already been approved for the Turtles by NOAA but Lamar said this was a Study that was supposed to have been done before the pier was built.It concerns the effects of fishing on the Turtle Population.
Fred, I agree with your Nov/Dec. guess. Its my understanding that they can't swing a hammer until a "Biological Study" is done. This study may take many many weeks. Plus, I can't imagine the loss of revenue for the State Park.
I really don't understand what this Study is for , It's not like your adding on , just replacing the planks and going up with a observation platform nothing to do with the footprint in the water
My guess is that the original assessment wasn't done due to an exemption clause following a federal disaster area designation. Now that it's time to repair, the Feds see it as an opportunity to get that assessment in place since no original is on file.

That's the 'elephant in the room' that got the octi closed down part of one day this past summer...
I was there that day , two girls that got it closed down were just volunteer from what I was told and had no education in wild life and fisheries , two game warden came down looked at the situation and reopened the end for fishing , said there was no risk to the dolphins and that this was a very common occurrence at other piers in the gulf and Jeffrey Epstein didn't kill him selfQuote:
