Daiwa saltwater spinning reel
Hey fellows,
I got a good deal on a big daiwa saltwater emcast plus 6000 spinning.I WONDERING if anybody used one and how it performs.HOW IS THE DRAG SYSTEM.It seems a little jerky just pulling on it.I use shimano for shallows and penn for kings!Never used a saltwater daiwa.
Re: Daiwa saltwater spinning reel
That reel is designed for surf casting. Its spool shape supposedly optimizes distance like most other surf gear. Surf gear seems to place ability to fight a fish behind distance. The Emcast drag may not be as good as certain Penn, Shimano or even other Daiwa drags, but it is more than likely adequate. The main reason I personally would put this reel on a do not consider list would be its overall size. At 28 oz. that is more reel than I want to hold for very long. Daiwa also states line capacities in 25-40# test lines. My absolute highest line size on what I consider a spinning reel speaking in terms of mono is 20#, braid is a different story and a whole other debate which I won't approach any further in this thread.
Re: Daiwa saltwater spinning reel
Just looking at it seemed like a little overkill as compared to what i usually fish,6500-penn.I GOT A SWEET deal on this reel at a estate sale.
Re: Daiwa saltwater spinning reel
Got one as a gift, great reel but just too big. Don't use it much. :(
Re: Daiwa saltwater spinning reel
Does sound like its pretty big would probably be fine for surf fishing, or any kind of bottom fishing. You could also use it as a heavy jig/lure reel for when the big redfish show up, or a stray cobia.
