Fish in the Canal?

Between Oyster Bay and Wolf Bay?
is it fresh or salt water?

After striking out 3 times on the pier we are looking for something that will eat these shrimp and provide some entertainment.

Maybe one of the jetty areas?

Trout fishing has been good around the concrete plant and the toll bridge.

If you can catch those little grey bugs (Pier#er insert correct name here) running around the rocks at the canal, they are deadly on sheepies. They are hard to catch and kind of creepy, bugs that is.

Sheepies in the canal, or bring the bugs to the pier?

Canal is brackish. Tough to fish from shore, limited access. Do you have a boat?
I'd rather fish the pier, the beach or Perdido Pass access areas.

Brackish means we need freshwater license?
i think we will end up back at the pier or just off the bank in Fort Morgan on the pass side.

hardest part will be convincing the wife I need to fish on our anniversary tomorrow. :)

No, brackish means its mid-way between salt and freshwater.
Its withing MRD jurisdiction, so you need a saltwater licence.

Will I'm not a local but I have drowned enough live J&M shrimp to have figured out that shoreline fishing the ICW is a hardhead catfish and ladyfish pond. There are lots of specs, black drum, flounder and redfish there too but you have to wade through dozens of the trash fish to catch keepers. My experience has been that my time fishing is more valuable spent just about anywhere besides the canal. If you have a boat then all bets are off. Good luck.

I’ll get one more chance and I guess it will be back to the pier or to a jetty or overpass tomorrow morning.

Next year we will probably bring the kayaks.
