Fished the new sea wall at OB.

We fished the new sea wall at OB from about 11:00 - 1:30, didn't catch anything and didn't see anything caught. We used live shrimp & fiddlers. FYI, we bought the fiddlers at Top Gun. Also the shrimp, and 4 of the shrimp were dead when I had gotten to the wall. The rest were very small. I don't know if that makes any difference if they are small or not but I thought that I was buying live shrimp. Lots of lookers, and a few fishermen. Also they are having a Surf Fishing clinic on 1/20/17 at 4:00.
BTW, Sunday about noon, several cop cars, an ambulance, somebody hauling a jet ski and the fire dept came up to the LL Pass to rescue a body surfer or a surfer from the Gulf. Someone had fallen off from his board and 3 guys went out to get him and they too got caught in the rip tide. They took one back in the ambulance. Has anyone heard how the guy came out? It looked like they all had there PFD's on.

I guess that confirms my suspicion about Top Guns live bait... were you targeting sheepshead?

Yep, fished right next to the new sea wall with 8# flouro. & #10 treble 2 people had big heavy steel leaders, but with a small j hook, two people were casting plugs, The rest, I don't know. Most of the people were socialites, some were reading, ALL WERE ENJOYING THE DAY, THANK THE LORD

In the past, my success fishing the seawall often hinged on adjusting my method, bait and location to the conditions of water and weather (especially when targeting sheepshead).
Sometimes they are 'just not there' (what my old buddy Fr. Ernie called "fishing vacant water") and I had to either find another location or wait for the conditions to change more to their liking.

Sheepshead can be VERY picky about the conditions in which they will feed and bite.
Too much current and they go into 'hunker down' mode.
Water too cold or too 'fresh' or too dingy and they just pout and rest until it warms and clears.

Fishing that pass and seawall can be rewarding once you figure it out, but it can be frustrating as hell in the meantime!
Use the 'bad' experiences to eliminate 'vacant waters' and try to concentrate your efforts and fishing time more on the circumstances that prove more successful ;-)
