How strict and how often do the authorities check for fishing license? Which is checked more often surf or pier?
We are renting a house surf-side near L. Lagoon Pass and wondering what the odds of being checked are. I will have a license but if I ask the wife to watch my rod while I run to the restroom, luck would have it that she would get checked and ticketed.
I'm not sure what the odds are of being checked are. But the odds that a ticket is way more expensive than a license is very high.��
Pier liscence is 7$ ticket is probably 200$do the math and you will buy a lisence

I was checked at Fort Morgan two years. Checked cooler also.
Not that I need it anymore but had mine checked on the pier about 2 months ago.
I've been checked twice on the pier this spring on fewer than ten trips out on the pier. Either they don't like my face or they are checking a lot more.
We had 6 kids fishing at Fort Morgan cooler checked coming off beach.The boys are great and know what the size limit is and I'm double checking also.The officer is doing his job and kids love to ask him about fishing spots for next trip.Kids all under 14 and wanted to cast at the netter boat that are the real fish stealers.Kids learning fast and never want to stop fishing.Good time to be a legal sportsman.
I get checked everywhere. Heck I could be fishing in a bucket in my backyard and the man will somehow know.
I'm right there with you. I get checked ALL the time. Went to Canada several years and would always manage to find the Warden that was over a huge area. I've never been cited for anything but I must look guilty as hell.....Quote:

Working for the man is no protection: I usually get checked at least once a year fishing the upper bay and at least once a year duck hunting.
I haven't been checked in over 30 years. That being said, I'll probably be checked the next time I go out.
I hope you aren't encouraging them. Nothing good could result, however I could think of several bad things happening and the majority of it (the bad) would fall back on you. Besides the net boaters aren't stealing anything. You, I and everybody else may not like where and how they fish, but the fact is they are doing what they do legally. Throwing hooks and weights at a passing boat is not the way to fight em.Quote:

I would think buying a license, whatever type, regular, pier, one day, seven day, or yearly even if you are a non-resident should not even be in question for if you have a chance of being checked.
It is part of the laws that every state has for DNR.
For any money you are spending for travel, accommodations and vacation entertainment, is it worth that extra cost (even $27 for a 7 day non-resident) to fish anywhere-anytime you want without looking over your shoulder?
That would certainly take some of the fun and relaxing fishing time away from me if I did not have one.
I am coming down for 10 days and am just going to buy an annual out of state because I know I will have the fishing itch the first and last night I am there. Try to spend every morning and evening in the surf. It is not worth the hassle if I were to get checked.
Back in the day when shooting a doe was only for a week during the season a man was walking through the woods at a time doe season was not in and he jumped a doe and decided to shoot her. She ran a ways and feel over dead. As he was going to retrieve her a big buck jumps up and starts running. He fires a shot and again the buck runs a bit before falling over. He walks down and starts dragging the buck back to where the doe lay dead. As he gets closer he sees a game warden standing next to the doe and the game warden says, "Looks like you got a nice one." The man calmly says. "Looks like you got a nice one too but aren't they out of season right now?"
