Fishing the pier
I will be going to the pier at the end of march and start of April. Last year at the same time we went down to the pier and rented poles and used live shrimp and caught some sheepshead. This year we are buying poles and I was wondering what are some good ways to catch some bigger fish? (King Mackerel, Spanish mackerel, Red fish, Black drum, Sharks, etc.)

+++ for Kastlemac85. Everyone asks the same questions that have been asked and answered many times.
I however learn a lot more from the old timers by watching them and asking questions on the pier. Your coming at a good time and should be able to hook up some good uns
The Fishermen/women will be more than happy to share knowledge with you. After all, this is the friendliest pier on the coast and the socialization is a big part of the overall fishing experience. Have fun. PM me if you need any particulars...

For those doing searches - There is SO much to wade through, it will help, when you do your search to narrow it down as much as you can by making your search very specific.
Use "quote-marks" (the things that I just used around the hyphenated word), y'know -- these things: " " It's a verbatim search that looks for words in that particular order. In that way, if you search "April Fool's Day" you'll only get posts about the specific day, not posts that contain those words, but in a different context.
It's impractical to do anything BUT steer guys to the SEARCH function, since the information is already on here and GENERAL questions "like, how do I catch _______________ (fish species)?" aren't simply answered and can be easily looked up. Use this resource for general information and information specific to the pier in Gulf Shores and utilize YouTube for demonstrations (knot-tying, rigging, etc).

go back into the reports for that specific time this past season most likely (pg. 14) a few pages and see what was being caught at that time should be close with in a few weeks depending on water temps are at the time your there on your stay.....don't complain about catching sheep head....good fight and darn good eating.....your time frame is close to the spainsh and king arrival, maybe even a cobe or two....but that competition can be extreme
you can't catch what hasn't showed up yet, but you can try they are on the way (migratory fish)
here is the page from that time on the reports
