Flounder!

Ok so Ill be down in the first week in august. An noticed as of 2019 the legal size for keep flounder was increased to 14in. Has this change made it harder to find keeper fish? I know around the piers in MS its not that hard to come up with fish that size during the right time of year. So is it harder to catch legal fish from the surf or pier now? Thanks!

I haven't targeted or caught many flounder on my trips, but those that I have were all just under 14".

I usually just focus on whiting if I want good eating fish, and spanish/blues if i want to have fun. Flounder seems to require a specific technique that doesn't fit my preferences all that well. I did get a backpack with a rod holder this year, so I may give beach walking for trout and flounder a shot.

We have two types of flounder here. One of the types the male rarely gets to 14 and the female not until it is very mature. Most of the flounders caught here will be undersized. The larger type is just not as plentiful here. Flounder used to be my main focus but the population has crashed in the past three years. I tried to get the state to post different size rules for the two types but they said too many people could not properly differentiate between the two.

Flounder is my Fav...I thought that it might have made it difficult there knowing there was two species an one rarely gets 14in...Oh well. THanks for the info!
