Drive west on Ft.Morgan rd till you can't drive anymore, then walk west till you can't walk anymore.
^^^that should do it.
If you park in the Fort's visitor parking, don't be in there after 5pm, they will lock you in.
I know of someone that had to call the Sheriffs to get his car out.
I'm hoping to be out there Monday morning, coming across on the first ferry.
Yep its a long walk. There's also excellent fishing down the little beach road on the left coming up to the fort, just be really careful as that little road is falling way apart so you have to pull off to the right and walk the rest of the way.

Even though the gate to the fort doesn't open until after 7am you can still park at the foot of the 'free pier' next to the public boat ramp and walk down the beach to the point.
It adds about a 1/3 of a mile to the walk, but at least it is accessible early and late ;-)
David,
I wonder if you can clarify the situation at the Fort Morgan "free pier". I have gone there quite a few times when no one was in the little shack with a stop sign. Last week there was a women there who wanted $5.00 from each of us to enter. Is that not a PUBLIC pier and boat launch? Whats up there anyway?
Thanks man.
its not free; I used to fish there quite a bit, bought a 60 day pass at a reduced rate to offset the cost. Used to have an honor box, folks didn't honor much. I have seen her come out on the pier to collect fees.
???
I've not seen that yet.
Of course I usually get there about 5:30 am and leave by 9 ::)
timing is everything
Its a screwed up mess there they say the fee is to enter the park i was there and refused to pay to use the pier ,,that park is a federal park but the pier and boat ramp are state built and owned,,the day i was there as i was turning around a man in a tahoe had a boat and a load of people and they were charged one boat launch ,,even though they all would use the pier
amen to that: it is a charlie foxtrot; and most folks don't pay and are never asked. But whenever I went out there, I would get charged so I bought the 60$ multi-pass to avoid the hassle.
The one time I've been there, I was just looking - went past the booth, without paying, to turn around so I could leave. The lady came running out of the booth yelling at me. Thought she was going to blow an aneurysm.

NOPE. Fort Morgan Historical Site is a property of the Alabama Historical Commission, State of Alabama Historic Preservation Office. Its not Federal. Ferry Landing is operated by ALDOT. Boat Ramps are maintained by ADCNR-MRD. But it is all on Fort Morgan Historical Site lands under an agreement with the Historical Commission.
The areas west, south and east the low concrete wall that surrounds the site are Federal.

So does it cost 5.00 to fish the pier or not? No real clear answer as of yet.

Thats ultimately up to the people who run the site, so I am really not sure. Havent personally been down there in years and only launched there once.

I guess we still need to find out. :wall: Next time one of us goes there, ask the woman who she is working for as well. I'd like to know where the $$$ go. Maybe she's just working on her own personal retirement account. :poke:Quote:

YES YOU ARE CHARGED $6 PERSON UNLESS YOUR LAUNCHING A BOAT THEN ITS $6 FOR A VAN LOAD ,,WE HAD WORDS AT LENGTH AND I ASKED THE VERY RUDE LADY WHO SHE WORKED FOR AND DID NOT GET AN ANSWER,,IT NEEDS TO BE DIVIDED ONE CHARGE FOR PIER AND ONE FOR FORT ,, OR A FEE FOR BOTH ,,THE $6 WAS FOR THE FORT WHICH I TOLD HER I WAS NOT GOING TO
Well I have been out to the pier there @ 5 or 6 time now and have alays paid the 5.00 either to the person in the booth or the honor box. I have seen one fisherman, more than one fisherman and families with children who just "walk" out there to take pics, catch crabs, etc and they did not pay. So I guess it's just one of those questions that has no answer.
the sign today said 7$ for adults, 5$ for kids.
