Ft Morgan sound and surf

I'm driving that way tomorrow for a week on Ft Morgan. Also, I'm staying on the sound side across the Hwy from Veterans Road. Any advice about fishing the sound and surf in that area this coming week would be appreciated. Thanks.

Don't know exactly what you are looking for, and I don't know a lot. Here is some basic advice for the novice like me. IN terms of action this time of year, I would say whiting is your best bet for action overall. Small piece of shrimp on a pompano rig maybe with a thumbnail size piece of orange/pink fishbites works pretty well fished on the beach side of the surf break or closer. Spanish, Bluefish and ladyfish are legit opportunity. I have found success with silver 3/4 oz spoon fished quickly (need leader). In terms of redfish/sharks, I have found nothing better than cut pieces of mullet on a 7/0 hook maybe a foot behind or above a 1 oz/2 oz sinker. For flounder, gulp shrimp on as small of a jighead as you can cast.

I'll be down with father in law and son in law Sunday in fort Morgan staying til wed we will be fishing the bay and surf and possibly around the dixey bar and the rock. I have a friend down there now he's catching some flounder trout and a couple sharks and rays this evening. We are staying at navy cove mayb we can all get together n fish.

For active fishing, the spoon suggestion is excellent. While you are doing that throw out some cut mullet for redfish, that way you can get a good chance at a photo worthy fish.

Don't forget to loosen your drag if you aren't standing by your pole...or it'll have a one way ticket to the deep blue.

Ok Javery, My rental on the sound side has a little dock for fishing. I'll be surf fishing on the beach around Veterens Blvd. I'll keep an eye on this thread and let ya know about the bite in my area, you do same........thanks. Maybe we can meet up!
