I can't say anything about Alabama, but I can confirm that the temperate bass fishing is very good in Missouri. I've only managed to catch small ones so far, but they are prone to making big runs when they get bigger. Also, walleye apparently love to feast on the little ones from what I've heard.
Also, apparently hybrids can't reproduce on their own in a lot of cases. The eggs and sperm are all very weak, making them functionally sterile. A lot of the ones caught in rivers around St. Louis are escapees from stocked reservoirs (I think a couple rivers that run into the Mississippi are stocked, too, in other places).
