I want to be able to sling, work, and retrieve lures for kings on a fast action M-MH 8-9' rod. I have a greenie 706 that needs a rod, my thoughts are to get rid of the greenie and go for a SSV because of the quickness and ease of retrieve, or should the retrieve speed even matter, I would think so on a fast action rod.
I have a black 706 on a MH Cobia rod, so I have that end of the spectrum covered, I'm looking more for a fast action setup with this question.

Biggest thing to worry about with artificials is the weight of the rod and reel together .you are going to be casting and moving it a lot more than fishing a live bait or snobbling a dead one so you will get tired a lot faster if its a heavy rig.

+1 on the weight issue. For throwing lures I went with a stratic 5000 with 300 yrds of 15lb of power pro and a 7'6" mh Mojo inshore. J&M has a shimano 7' 6" crucial that has the K series guides that paired with a stratic reel would handle kings nicely and not wear you out fishing it.
What kind of price are we taking about for this combo? I am stuck in the Penn rut, but have heard nothin but good things about the stratics. Thanks for the informative post.Quote:

What about a st croix tide master 7'6" MH MA? Found one used. Seems to be clost to the same as the Mojo and Crucial.Quote:

Tide masters are nice rods however I like the split handle of the MOJO and Crucial makes the rod a little lighter.
