it is very addicting .... i am very proud to say while some of my friends are addicted to other things im addicted to fishing! :headbang: 8)
+1
I would have been there Friday and Sat. but we brought the dog with us and it would not have been quality time with my wife and daughter when they were at Dauphin Island. I saw there were a lot of people on the pier.
I also live 1,000+ miles from any beach.
Just think about it a different way. From Iowa I can go south to Texas and PINS. East to OBX and West the CA.
An old Marine friend of mine said he wanted to go to Santa Cruz and go albacore fishing. From Iowa I only have to make 1 right turn and it is 1900 miles on I 80.
I thought I had a long drive 366 miles away. It wouldn't be good for me to live closer. I would get fired from callimng in sick to stay on the pier. Not sure when you came down and didn't catch anything but next time try to come down in late April through October. There will be something biting during those times.
August can be tough....(dog days of summer) ....I wish I only had 366 for the drive....maybe one day I'll be closer....got the grand daughters OK ....the first time on the old pier got me hooked when the spanish made a mack attack on the pier..... with non stop catching.....amazed me then and now with the pier longer and to better water the kings are making some similar shows along with all the other suspects ....what a great pier, just wish I could find some lodging closer at a reasonable price for a few trips a year....oh well :boohoo:
Just got back home to northern Alabama. Only 232 miles...but hated leaving. Didn't catch a thing, but spending hours out there fishing(not catching!) is so enjoyable, I'll be back down in 11 days for a seven-day trip. Started eye-balling houses and apartments this trip... Gonna move to the area as soon as the house sells here.
The pier and the area and the people just make you want to come back. It's just good like that.
Google or Bing, Vacation Rental by owner
Vacation Rental By Owner (VRBO) is the way to go. That's what we did and found a great house in the Fort Morgan area. Did some surf fishing as well as a few trips to the Pier.

Good to hear KingKiller!
That is how we do it, and it is great. Have to eat alot of mayonaise sandwiches to pay for it, but what the heck. We live for that week all year.
I wish we could afford to come down more often but being po(poor - or) prevents that. Maybe when I get a raise and Im back to poor we can come more often.
Not sure if I heard right but thought there was a Pier cam at one time. At least then we would have been able to watch some of the excitement...
The web cam was privately owned and has been shut down by the owner. It did not belong to us or the state.
Thanks for the clarification FinChaser. :(
Yeah I sure to miss it too, 1900 miles for me. WAY TOO FAR away. Hopefully someday I'll be back there in paradise or somewhere a little closer.
Wow! 1900 miles, I guess I don't feel soooo bad now Tofer. My wife says I can go back next spring if not before so I guess it could be worse.
Never even got to use my new Boga Grip, guess I'll have to try it on one of my kids when they smart off! LOL!
I have two condos in Gulf Shores that I rent out fairly cheaply. In face one is directly on the beach. If interested in more information please pm me
