first time in area bringing the kayak any good places to check out. ill hit the pier and the surf as well any tips appreciated

I wouldn't hit the pier with your kayak. It might hurt.
Seriously though, I've seen several kayakers fishing little lagoon, though I can't tell you how well any did. Just saw them from a distance.Brandon

Little lagoon or the bon secour river....specs and nice croakers in lagoon.....reds floundero's specs ground mullet and white trout and sheephead in the river.....i use popping cork and live shrimp or bull minnows in river just about everywhere
