Did you get any of those tarpon to eat the other day?
No, we saw them again on the ride back to the lagoon pass. We got ahead of a huge school and threw out a net full of live pogies and the tarpon swam right through them. Definitely not feeding on their return trip.
Went by 4 seasons just the other day oldfisherman More folks out there than I usually see I’ve been catching a few pomp’s whiting and flounder on the beaches but they’re all micro I think Chile’s right about the cold front It should get things going At least the water has been pretty clear
I have not been to the pier much, but when I have been there I have noticed a conspicuous shortage of baitfish.
Surf fished both gulf and bay side last Thursday and Friday at Perdido, FL. Lizard fish, needle fish, and a few dozen undersized blue crabs. Where did the fish go? We could not find any bull minnows but did use live and dead shrimp. Hopefully, this cold snap will release the lock jaw experience we have been having.
There are big trends and local trends. Quail can be way down in the county but not in my field or vice versa. My theory is that all the Gulf Shores fish have discovered that the octagon pilings are immune to those annoying splashes of landing lures and have moved 100 yards south out of range.
OK it's not true but it beats the theory that my skills erode with age.
I was in PCB last week. Not a LOT of fish being caught, but got some nice Spanish, lost 2 kings, got several nice whiting, blues, BoBo. Caught a lot of small pomp and whiting in the surf. And 1 octapus (spelling?) on a dead bull minnow. Lost 2 nice mangrove on monnows too.
My sister was out on Four Seasons pier this afternoon and saw a couple of Spanish caught. Said the whiting are running small and a few flounder around. I am counting on the cooler weather improving the size of the whiting. I will arrive the 31st,
