jigmaster

I have an old Penn Jigmaster 500 that I haven't used in more years than I can count. However, it's a reel, and it feels silly to not put it to use. Does anyone on here use one or have experience with them and if so, any recommendations on a good sized rod? Amazon has Tica casting rods available for a decent price, but I'm torn on size. I use a 10' Star rod with my Penn spinning reel. Also, any recommendations on line would be appreciated. Was going to use Ande Back Country 25# mono. I've heard casting these reels can be a real pain in the neck. My plan is to use it as my bait chucker while using my other set up to throw plugs way out or just toss out a different kind of bait while I use my 7' set up to fish closer in.

Jigmasters are great bang for your buck castable reels for sharls if they are the right size. With what you said it sounds like a great setup for sharking.

Truth be told, sharks scare the crap out of me. I'm 90% sure I had one on my line 2 years ago and I wasn't too sad when it decided to let go. When I reeled in my line there was half of a large ladyfish left. I guess I had caught the lady and didn't know it and the shark got an easy meal.
So I won't actually be targeting sharks (and I know you aren't technically allowed to on the beach correct?). I know they are out there though and I have to be prepared for the reality that I might catch one (and then cut the line) I'm actually going to make another post about how to handle sharks as I know there are some very experienced folks on this board with them.
