Kayak Fishing
Im looking at buying a fishing Yak in the next few months and I know there are a few here that are into it pretty heavy. What do you think is better a Sit in or a sit on top I will probably be fishing the Causeway in Mobile and Fish River the most but Would also like to hit the beach with it on a calm day.

The vast majority of what I've seen, recommends a SOT for fishing.
And I just recently bought my first fishing yak, a SOT, I got a lightly used Ocean Kayak 'Prowler 13'.
-
Dittos to the SOT. Many good Yaks to select from. Post a request for recommendations on the site at the link below and you will get a lot of great feedback. Joining MBKFA would also be a good idea.

My endeavor by ocean is the same boat as a prowler 13,love it,stable, fast,,plenty of capacity, factory scupper well for transducer,,wet ride but plenty of rise in the bow,,handles well w/out rudder but is factory set up for one;;;Think you will be pleased,,chuckster

I hear a lot of Kayak guys say the mirage drive system is the way to go. Like already stated, defiantly a SOT style.
-
The mirage drive by Hobie is great for bay, inlets and rivers, but I think I would suggest a paddled yak for a surf launch and near shore fishing in the gulf.
-
I have a Hobie Outback with the newer generation mirage drive and fish offshore with it-I don't do much inshore/bay fishing with it. Wouldn't own a paddle only yak for surf/open ocean work. The peddles of the mirage drive allow you to use both hands to fish while trolling instead of fighting with the boat. There is a huge offshore kayak fishing community just to our east in Pensacola/Navarre and the majority of guys who are serious about chasing pelagic fish in a yak are in a Hobie. They're expensive but the mirage drive addicted me to the sport from day one. There are some guys in Pensacola that guide out of kayaks and will let you try the different models they have while actually fishing if you book them for a day.

Been looking at the Hobie and also the Torque by ocean but would definitely like to give them a test drive before I spend that kind of money.
