hey yall! new guy to the board here. I'll be coming down for a week vacation in june and im bringing my kayak with me and wanting to target some reds and specs. I know its still a little ways off but im trying to do as much research as possible to make my trip as productive as possible. From my reading so far fishing the pass seems to be the best bet right now. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Stay out of Perdido Pass in your yak.
Damned dangerous place with all the boat traffic and often ripping currents during tides.
West pass , will be fine. In little lagoon. Fish the grass flats and hang on. Very good speck fishing.

Nice launching spot at Moes Landing park off Ft. Morgan road. Public launch, picnic area and clean restrooms.

I usually put in at Jeff Friend Kayak Launch on Fort Morgan road, 5.6 miles from Rouses Market. Tons of White trout and croakers, some nice speckled trout, no redfish or flounder last year for me, but I have caught them in the past. Another place is Bon Secour river, I really enjoyed fishing there and hope to go back in April, I caught redfish, trout, small snappers, lots of catfish. Want to spend more time there in the future. Launch at Aquila Seafood if they still allow people to use their ramp and property. Tons of other places I want to go, but just haven't found the time.
Let me know when you find grass flats in Little lagoon...Big Lagoon there are plenty of them...Little Lagoon not so many
Keep an eye out for gators if on the east side of Little Lagoon. And I'll add to the comments about staying out of Perdido Pass - I've seen some small outboards struggling to push against the current there when the tide is really pulling out. Depending on the number of people on the beach, I take my kayak nearshore in the gulf when the waves are tame and wind is low. There's also a ramp off canal road behind Brick Spoon that's part of the Orange Beach Canoe Trail. That gives access to Wolf Bay if wind is light and boat traffic low. That launch is really kind of discreet and amid private property, but there's a sign and small strip to park.

In Little Lagoon, do you just start casting to the bank and work jigs with paddle tails plastics on them? I am coming down next Wednesday to fish in Little Lagoon. Looking to try and catch some trout and not against catching some bigger croakers. Where would be a good place to start and what structure should I look for?

I guess I wasn’t clear on my Grass flats. I have had luck around the reeds/grass looking stuff around the bank .... whatever you call that. I used top water lures and freelined shrimp and wore the trout out in a kayak. And also the flounder around where they were dredging along the deeper drops with bull minnows. Just what I’ve encountered. Spotted bass you staying at four seasons this year?
