Hi, everyone! For those that have custom or higher end King rods, I am curious what the length, power, action, lure, and line weight are? With 15 pound mono, are the K guides better than the oversized? Will be throwing cigs and LYs. Thanks!!

I can't give you any specifications, but I can tell you that if you're throwing live bait and cigs, you need a medium to slow tip to keep from ripping the hook out of the bait, and a good backbone to whip down the fish. Eight feet seems to be the preferred length, and the oversized guides increase your distance. Line range should be something like 15# to 30#.
Coincidentally, J&M Tackle makes just such a rod as one of their "store custom" rods. Drop by there and check them out. I have two and am very fond of them---actually, I use them so much that they need to be refinished so they'll once again look as good as they work. I'm not sure, but I think they run about $175.00. There are plenty of other rods available, but these are pretty much specifically made for pier fishing. John G. can tell you everything you want to know about king rods.

You would be hard pressed to find a better all around rod than what John sells, and if you paid to have a custom rod built you'd see what a good deal these are. If you fish even a few times a year the cost per trip is not a lot and your success rate is most likely going to go up.
