    knot tying refresher

Someone (I think it was Haywire) gave me a tip last year on how to leave a loop when tying on a lure (gotcha in particular) to give the lure more action. It has slipped my mind so can someone please give me a refresher? Also can I get some suggestions on the best knot to join main line and leader material without a swivel. Thanks again! See y'all soon. Toby

Double uni knot for joining main to leader.

I like the Albright knot for tying leader to line, especially if there is a difference in size, such as 50# leader to 8# line. Uni is great for most other uses.

The strongest and easiest to tie loop knot I've found is the Canoe Man Loop.

The 'heat-of-battle' knots I like to tie are even faster.
Not quite as strong as the aforementioned ones above, but sufficiently effective to get me 'back in the game' in under two minutes ;-)

Simply make a hitch about 2 inches up your leader and pass the tag end thru the eye of the lure...

Then pass the tag end thru the first hitch and cinch it down about 1/2 inch from the lure eye...

Then tie another hitch on top of that and cinch them both down and trim the tag end...

To join the leader line to the main line I like to use a Uni to Uni, but again in the 'heat of battle' I will tie a quick connect.
Simply place the two tag ends side by side, and twist around your hand to form a loop several inches wide.
Then pass BOTH tag ends thru the loop, twice.
Cinch the knots down, then pull the two lines opposite to 'seat' the knot.
The tag ends will pop out at 90 degrees and you can trim them off.
