Right there with you. Heading down from Dallas about the same time. Looking forward to hitting the pier for a day or two.
Us too! Heading down on Saturday 5/25for a week, expecting to be on the pier everyday!
same here slowly counting the days until 6/22 until my wife and I can try our luck again for the second time this year. Was down there in march and had good luck with the sheep head. Now I want to put my wife on a big king or jack! Love watching her catch a fish that makes her reel sing! Never seen a woman get so into fishing when she hooks into a big one! When we haft to leave and head back home to TN the timing should be right to put her on some big stripers on the Hiwassee River! So hope we have two weeks of back to back awesome fishing together!
Can't hardly wait myself
And another Tenn bunch will be down 16th to 21 can't wait.See ya'll on the pier:)
WOW! I never knew that there are so many tennesseans that count down the days until they get to go out on the pier. I told my wife that i wasnt crazy. Ill be down the first week of June.
Yeah if you havent tried fishing for stripers in the hiwassee you need to give it a try! It is the closest thing to catching big saltwater fish! catching a 30 to 40 pound striper in the fast moving current feels like hooking into a hundred pound tuna! My wife got spooled several times last year until she finally landed one then she was hooked!Attachment 444Attachment 445Attachment 446 This is just a few we landed last year.
CB1983 I have heard that twra has blocked off a big area below the dams due to the danger of the swift water. Have you heard anything on that subject? I go stripe fishing below cordell hull
I've not herd much on it, but will ask around and find out. I'm not catching these near the damn I'm catching these in the upper Hiwassee where people trout fish and white water raft. In reliance Polk co.
it's the corps of engineers that is wanting to restrict access below the dams. twra is refusing to enforce it if it passes.
i have caught a lot of stripers in the clinch river and have never even came close to being spooled. a 25 lb jack would drown a 60 lb striper if tied tail to tail. i haven't even hardly wet a line here since our trip down last year. there is just no comparison.
If you get a chance this year try the hiwassee near the power plant. the speed of the water makes one heck of a difference. its like trying to reel in a 60 log with muscle up the rapids.
I am with you too, coming down July 1, ready to fish
Where you boys from? My wife is from Turtletown, her grandfather spent a good portion of his life building the dam.
Another TN resident here - I'm from the Memphis area. Stik - good to see a familiar "face" :)
I believe that Cordell Hull is one of the reservoirs impacted by the regulations, but I haven't heard much detail on whether they went through with installing hard barricades everywhere or not. The dams affected are on the Cumberland River only, not the Tennessee River.
I'll be down the week of June 8th - looking forward to spending a morning out on the pier again. Maybe in another couple years ill start bringing my son out to join in the fun. This year I think we'll stick to surf and lagoon fishing for him (he's 5).
Can't wait!
John g I'm from Chattanooga .Turtletown's just up the road from me.
John G I live in Benton Tn which is in polk co the same as turtle town just each lil town is on oppsite sides of the mountain. If you all come up in the late summer hollar at me and I"ll be gald to take you striper fishing up here in the mountains. My wife and I will be back down there last week in June and like the last time down there will most likely be by J&M every day to see you, kip and tater again and get some tips and baits! Hope to get to fish with guys while we are down there!
Plus if any of the locals want to try this summer I would be more than happy to meet up if I'm going and show some spots tips and tricks I've learned fishing for them in the upper Hiwassee.
I just might take you up on that:o
will be more than glad to man. nothing like fishing and making new friends while fishing!
