Need help picking a rod.

I need help picking a quality rod that would work will for both kings and reds. I have a good reel to go on the rod and plan on using 15 lb mono on it. I currently have what feels like a 7 foot broom handle with eyes on it. I am still fairly new to the salt having been a freshwater fisherman my whole life. Any input will be appreciated.

I would recommend going with one of the entry level custom rods.

Agreed with pest ,ive got an 8ft cui that i have very little money in and have caught reds,king and few others with no problems.

What exactly would that be and how much does it cost?

You can purchase a entry level custom rod from myself, or John at J and M. Prices can range from 150.00 on up. The sky is truly the limit when it comes to custom rods.

Jeb and John both build phenomenal rods..

If you dont get alot of answers its because there are so many variables... each person has their preference of rods for the way that THEY fish (dead bait, live bait, plugs)

I'd say the biggest questions are; what reel will you be using? what legnth rod do you want? a slower or a faster blank?

Go around to the shops and give some of the shelf rods a shake... might want to ask if you can put your reel on it to see if it will balance to your liking also...

Fin has seen too many political commercials lately...

Lee,our part time rod builder at J&M started building stock king rods because we are caught up.One of them is wrapped with an orange under wrap,dark blue over,and white trim.Maybe Fin will take a pic of it for you the next time he's down.

John, I called your shop this evening about that and I must say I am very impressed. I am a retail regional manager and the guy I talked to was an outstanding example for customer service.

beautiful work, a fine addition to anyone's arsenal...though why anyone would want orange and white Clemson colors on it is beyond me...'specially after last weekend.

Ahhhh! My eyes! They hurt! Now who would want such hideous colors on a rod. Needs some crimson and white. :poke1:
