Look at the link above for reports, try using the search option also. And as far as the LYs, better just stop and pickup some shrimp. And if this is all too much to do, you can stop at a local fish market and buy your catch.
Re: Need some info guys!!!!! heading there next week!!!!!!
if there is no ly's , will there be plenty of those pinfish to catch around the wall at perdito you think? they seemed to do pretty decent as cut bait etc.
Re: Need some info guys!!!!! heading there next week!!!!!!
There shouldn't be many pin fish around, but I may be wrong. I usually try to stay away from the pin fish. If you want cut bait, just buy a box of pogies or something.
Re: Need some info guys!!!!! heading there next week!!!!!!
hows all that frozen do? is it worth a flip?
Re: Need some info guys!!!!! heading there next week!!!!!!
and what about hooking into a shark. are there any around this time of the year? i know you cant pull them up on the pier BUT does a guy stand a chance of hooking one at perdito pass? and any of those bluefish hanging around right now like on the pier and perdito?
Re: Need some info guys!!!!! heading there next week!!!!!!
Frozen bait works great, that being said, a ballyhoo under a popping cork fished in the surf may not be your best option. Frozen bait works great when used in the right application. There's quite a few fisherman that will only use frozen bait.

seriously. appreciate you taking your time to respond and give your 2 cents worth... id try to return the favor , but i am greeeeen when it comes to saltwater fishing.... all i know i came down for my first time last may for a week and just about lived on the pier night and day, and i havn't slept worth a crap sense lol. only thing was , it got expensive loosing hundreds of yards of power pro braid to stuff i coudlnt hardly turn around. anyone else to chime in and throw their 2 cents worth in for me?
Re: Need some info guys!!!!! heading there next week!!!!!!
If it's not to late you might want to put your trip off for a few weeks, catching season hasn't started yet. It's kind of like going to a ski lodge during the end of March and there being no snow then telling the people ,but there was plenty here a month ago.. There should be some sheepshead next week but that's about it.

[size=12pt]Most of us use mono instead of braid.

Re: Need some info guys!!!!! heading there next week!!!!!!
well that sums it up! I called the hotel i had booked and they were happy to reschedule the last week of march for me. that was about as bad a feeling as i would imagine telling the wife that i got a girlfriend.lol well maybe not quite that bad but it was rough!. I won't sleep a bit for the next few weeks now. HOPEFULLY the report will be alot better at the end of march.... and i am a mono man myself. Took my wife with me last trip. and she is a small gal 5ft'2in and about 110 lbs. She couldn't handle those big rods real well , so i had her a shimano stella 4000 spooled up with braid, $200 worth of power pro later, she had the best experience of her life. lol was the funniest thing i ever saw....... we would go fish perdito from dark till about 4:00 am then go hit the pier till about 10:30am or so. bout the time it got HOT and crowded. we would get back in the hotel , and she would be laying in bed , twitching and jerking she was so tired, and all she could talk about was getting back on the pier....... was so funny, but it ruined us both

200$ worth of power pro on a stella 4k ? Was it 5 lb ?? Or about 4 spools
Re: Need some info guys!!!!! heading there next week!!!!!!
several spools lol. half of it was due to her hooking into those rays, everyone would be yelling cut it of and such cause they crossed line up so much. loose about 50 yards at a go. then on a 4000 size reel. didn't take long before you didn't have enough line capacity to due much if you hooked into anything good, soooo . strip the rest off and respool. i crimped and made leaders more in that week than i did my entire life, fingers were actually sore from it.she did hook one king , that spooled her, but those aint real big reals,, i never saw the fish, people on the pier were saying it was a king.
Re: Need some info guys!!!!! heading there next week!!!!!!
Hate to hear that..
First I'd also recommend mono on a larger reel with you being green concerning salt, but if you choose otherwise..
I'm Not sure what size braid you were using , but if you insist on using it, 15 on a 4000 should be sufficient for many kings, and I'd also advise against cutting the line, get a few wraps around your hand (or pliers)and pop it
