netting bait orange beach

Hi
Can someone please tell me where I could net some mullet for bait in orange beach. I have been here for a month and have tried shrimp and live fiddler crabs with no luck . I have been at the pass on both sides and the sea wall and the surf all with no luck. Any help would be appreciated. I really like this forum. Thanks for the help. I have been watching the pier report also and visited once just scouting.

Wade out into that cold gulf, stand on the bar and wait for a school to wander by.

Learn to slurp some ghost shrimp, those are one of the few things I've seen the sheepies eat right now.
Some fresh cut mullet would likely do well for bottom fishing Reds, but a lot have been caught recently on cut shrimp on pompano rigs (think single & double rop surf rigs).

Sorry bruiser,but you can't make the fish bite in these cold conditions. Be patient,things will pick up soon and will be in full swing a few weeks from now. Finger mullet will show up in a couple months and can be netted at the boat launches or by wading most areas in the bay,cotton bayou or terry cove where you can find access with a little structure or grass. Don't over look the mouths of little drainage ditches that dump into the bays. I use a 4'x1/4" mesh for ditches and a 7'x14" around the launches and wading. When you catch FM's they are dark green. I like to hold them in a bait bucket for a couple days and let them purge then they become shiny silver with a light green back,just like a color # 18 mirrolure.J&M does have bull minnows if your wanting to try a bait fish. Another thing,around the launches you are sight casting,in the ditches you are blind casting. Have an extra set of cloths because the ditches are full of muck.

If you don't change clothes, you can go straight to the pier and people will give plenty of room at the rail!

Boat ramps are great places to catch finger mullet, they will be right on the concrete ramps. Just be courteous to those wanting to launch,
