New guy here, Need tips info etc..

..Gonna be down in GS June 12-16 an would like some tips. I am a pretty avid fisherman, but its been years sence I fished the gulf. First off what gear do I need. I plan on bringing two rods, ones a tica 9ft surf rod with a stradic 2500 an the other is a inshore extreme 8,6 with a stradic 2500 both with 15pd braid. I uses these rods on stripers at the local res, will these rods work well. Or do I need to bring some other rig. Most of my other rigs are for Big Cats or bass. Also what lures and bait should I use. I like flounder but I am not to picky on what I catch, but would like something good to eat. haha Please any tips on gear, bait, and speices of fish I should target. Thx

your reel at least needs 300yd's of line

king- The smallest swivel you can find 12-15 inches of wire leader then a size 2 treble if you throw you bait off easily go to size 1 treble.

spanish- Basically if your fishing with live bait basically same set up as king just use smaller baits. Also Looney jigs, Yo Zuris, Got-chas are good for spanish

Flounder- carolina rig with bull minnow or Live shrimp

Specks- Small Ly or Live shrimp will do the job

Welcome to the forum, I too am fairly noobish on this stuff and have recently asked a good bit of questions resembling what you are wanting to know. So the best advice I can give you is if you want info on a particular fish, type it in on the search bar. Same goes for just about any key word you are interested in. If you still cant find what you are looking for, type in my name, it should pull up all my posts involving most of the answers you seek answered by the great guys who keep this forum up and running. These guys on here are good and really know their stuff. This forum contains a wealth of knowledge.

Bass tackle will be fine for the specks and flounder,whiting,and other smaller fish in the shallows. You will only need heavier gear if your going after the kings,cobia ,or the big bull reds. Your surf rod should be fine gust make sure the reel can hold 300+ yards of 15-20# line.

Flounder you need a small medium action pole with any reel. To target flounder you need a Carolina rig with around 15-20lb leader (incase a red fish hits it) and if your buying bait use bull minnows or you can be thrifty and catch finger mullet and that in my honest opinion it's the best bait. Why 300yds?..neither reel holds more then 240..errm might have to get a larger reel

250 yards of 15# will be fine for the vast majority of kings you hook on the pier, my reel holds about that.
But there always the chance you will hook a smoker and get spooled. I would not go buy a new reel unless you just want to spend the $$.
