Well, where I am the fishing is not at its best right now so I checked how it was down here. That got me thinking, I'm going to get a king and sharking reel for the pier and Ft. Morgan. I'm deciding what reel, a Penn Spinfisher V 7500, or a Penn Battle 2 8000? Also suggestions on a rod and rigs for sharks would be appreciated. Thanks.
Any of those will work for the combination of fish you mentioned . IMHO.
I went with the 300 Staal and the new Cui FU-13 Special Order. 1.5 at the butt great spine 12 tip. I'm probably the only guy in the world who even knows about this incredible blank. With top-shelf braid I'm looking to get out(or back depending on how you look at it) about 175-200 yards. I'm just looking to relax and have fun with it you know! Cheers guys! Good luck guys!
Battle 8000 will definitely do the job, but it is big and heavy. A smaller battle would likely meet your needs as well. Do you realize shark fishing is not allowed from the pier?Quote:

Yeah, they are tanks I have a 4500 that I use for surf fishing and all around pier use, and yes I'm aware of the no sharks on the pier.What about rigs too?
Hey Tom, watch out out there man. I'm getting out 220-225 easy. My Bathook is probably 12 oz. or so. I had a good offshore out there today so maybe less--I don't know. Sorry guys I know the 800 is pretty sweet and all but my 300 F U is the sh!t!
IMHO the Penn Battle II is a great reel for pier king fishing (5000 or 6000), but not near as good for beach fishing as the Spinfisher V.Quote:

Plus the Spinfisher V (7500) has a bit more drag 'stopping power' than the Battle II (8000) which should be a plus for sharking.
For a surf rod I like the Offshore Angler Ocean Master 10'-12' (currently on sale under $150).
Or even the Tsunami Airwave for just a bit more.
But honestly a 10'-12' rod is not a very feasible pier kingfishing rod.
Your choices would seem to be:
buy TWO combos (one pier/king another surf/shark) or
buy a single combo for whichever you want to do the most and 'make it work' for the other application, or
buy one reel and two rods.

Sorry #r, I know it's all downhill after 11 ft--that's simple physics, but the 300 F U 13 is my slider rig! With the rod holder extension my tip will be up at 17-18 ft --that is sure to give me an advantage over the other guys! I didn't know if Fisherman was going to slider fish or not. Sorry guys.
Uhh yeah, I fergot about "zip line" fishing :rolleyes: LOL
