Anybody ever fished Maui?
My daughter and her husband have moved my grandchildren to Maui. We are headed out in February for a few days. Has anybody ever tried to fish out there from shore? Not really into the charter boat thing. I know its a shot in the dark, but hey, it never hurts to ask.

Never fished Maui but I had the chance to fish Kona and caught a blue marlin to finish out my Royal slam. My wife also got a good hooter on the first day.

Re: Anybody ever fished Maui?
I haven't been but my family has; my understanding is that shore-fishing opportunities are somewhat limited but possible for smaller fish. The hard-core locals fish from rock cliffs with a rig that more resembles something from the end of the pier on steroids for large jacks (ulua). Interesting to see on video so I'd love to see it in person, but not something you'd do on the first trip.

Honestly, I am not sure Tom. But your speculation has merit as recent rains would have brought an influx of nutrients into eastern LL and a subsequent increase in macroscopic life feeding on that...
