I am planning on coming down in October for a weeks worth of fishing from the shore and pier. Any tips for fishing during that time of year? Rigs, bait, etc.
Also I have a Penn Fierce 14' Surf Rod combo which works fine, but isn't made for casting in the tight quarters of the pier. Anyone have a good pier rig setup they would suggest?
7 foot rod
2500-4500 series reel for the small stuff
Heavier 7-8 foot rod with a 4500-6500 sized reel for the bigger stuff.
bottom rigs with fresh shrimp
spoons, gotchas, topwater lures
Im a decent bass fisherman, but so so in saltwater so take my advice with a grain of salt.
No longer then 9ft, and a reel that holds 250+ yrds of line .....unless targeting the smaller species
I love my stradic's for the smaller fish.....but any will work.....fresh water .rinse daily
I run 3 7' medium rods with 4000 sized spinning reels, 15# braid with mono backing and a 20# mono top shot.
2 rod and reels are Bass Pro pro-comps with Shimano Sedona reels, the other is a $9 Shimano rod with a $10 Diawa IX reel. I have 8 and 9' BPS saltwater combos with 20# broad but don't know the last time I got the lines wet. I normally chase smaller fish and don't shoulder in for kings.

I have a 9ft King rod I bought at Half Hitch in Navarre and a Penn 7500 spinning reel with 16lb test. I also have a Penn 5500 with 14lb test I use with a 6.5ft Penn rod and a Penn 4400 with 10# test I use with a 6.5ft Shimano rod for pitching gotcha plugs and bubble rigs

Just think of what you would use in spinning gear for freshwater stripers for kings and spiniing gear for bass for spanish, pomps, or flounder.
Kings run like the first striper run except about twice as hard and 4 times as far. Really fun. Warning is that after king fishing bass fishing is a little tame.

Yes, fish the City Pier usually in October and the spring. We usually stay the entire month of October. I am sure we have met. Lots of good people on that pier.Quote:
