Hi I'm new to king fishing and i was just wanting to get an opinion on the penn 704z or the penn 7000 fierce. I have the choice of getting one of them and was wanting to see what y'all would pick. Both of the reels are 40 dollars.

Go with the Fierce, provided they are equal mechanically. You'll probably get plenty here tell you to opt for the 704, which is a fine reel also. I am just not a fan of cupped spool reels (700 series Penns, vintage Mitchells and Van Staals). Except for the VS, the Fierce has many modern improvements that trump any cupped reel IMO.
If both are in good shape, you really can't go wrong with either and both have caught their share of macaronis. If I recall correctly, the co-state record King (briefly) was caught by a young boy with a 7000 Fierce. I do recall correctly seeing smaller yet numerous amounts of other kings falling to 704s.
Welcome sadams!
That sounds like a pretty good price for either.
Comparing 'head-to-head' the Fierce is going to weigh a few ounces more but has a bit more line capacity (about 300yds of 20# mono).
IMHO the gearing in the Fierce is superior to the 704, and they tend to feel more 'balanced' than the 704.
Hope this helps and you get the reel you will be happy with!
I used a Fierce 6000 on my last trip down on my artifical rod. I didnt hook a king but did manage a few big spanish. It handled them easily. For the money you cant beat the Fierce, but if you can get a few more bucks together I'd tell you to go for the Penn Battle. They are great reels for under $100. It has an upgraded drag and a few other upgrades.
